Tale of a Knight

|
It has been ages since this forest knew a human presence
A solitary knight, having seen his city fall, looking for two great mages
in an old and isolated tower
Only a desperate man could tread this land, haunted by a vision of fire and blood
Surrounded by mountains and woods, nature whispering by the wind
The coming of a soul, hundreds of eyes through the trees are looking
Given to understand a tragic memory
The knight faces the tower of stones, ready to fight his magic
Voices rising by the door
A warning for his fate
Old edifice lost in woodlands
A long journey coming to an end
When the daylight falls
Death will come and take your soul
Darkness falls all around the knight
And in a thunderclap, mirror images of wizards appear
Crackling lights emerge from the two illusions
There's no way to avoid this fight
Deluge of spells descends on the intruder
Sorcery burns his flesh with a green fire
In a last burst of bravery, he runs
And stops this combat by two powerful strikes
Opening the door
A place full of mysteries

There are four, four artefacts of power
Who channel the essence of this world
Stones of nature, jewels of wisdom and a forgotten crystal
Many men, many creatures got lost in their search
Azure ornament on a golden crown
The jewels of kings hold the souls of ancient rulers
Buried with the last of the first age, in a forsaken tomb
A visit breaks a century-old silence
Tomb of the forgotten
Abandoned sovereigns
Hidden in old mountains
Where rests all the fallen
Ancient ruins in shadow of peaks, a line of light reveals
The entrance, the culmination of a quest
Sinking into darkness, Taaron progresses, until he finds the coveted grave
The jewels of kings are finally found
Deep breaths, shaking hands, the ruler puts the crown on his head
A vision, illuminating the austere chamber
City in flames, winged beast and destruction
The fall of Endeor is now revealed

Resplendent Endeor proudly dominates
In an age of peace the city of men shines
But on a fall night a shadow veils the moon
The winged plague coming from east falls on the sleeping city
Surprised by the fire falling from the sky
The cries cover the sound of bells
Placed on the highest tower, before the city in flames
The beast addresses the king
Behold the fall, of Endeor
By my fire, your death will come
Behold the fall, of Endeor
By my power, your reign is done
A red sun rose on the still smoking stones
The wind sweeping through the rising fog
Unveiling the few survivors, the embers of desolation
And among them, lays the body of King Sindorias
No more home, no more kingdom, a young prince has seized the throne
Chasing the allies of the ancient regime
An empire to rebuild, an order to restore
The new city of Therallas will rise
Far far away, from dust and destroyed towers
Therallas rose and became, the symbol of a new world

Under celestial vault and toward the sound of owls
The young druid walks into the heart of the forest
After years passed in the order of warriors
He finaly could address his god, Myrdinn Oc The Great Tree
Asking him in a desperate prayer
With courage and bravery to receive the Moonstone
Father, first tree on this millennial land
Hear my noble request, as your humble servant
Open your heart, release the stone
Give me the strength to face this world
A loud sound shakes the ground and branches
A blinding light then pierces the dark forest
Offering power only a few deserve, tree's body splits open
Floating under a light wind and an enchanting melody
The artefact of power is at hand

In a broken realm the void reigns
Frozen in an endless silence
A son devastated by the disappearance of his father
Must rise and embrace his destiny
Sacred place of ceremony surrounded by lush nature
The Sehogan Valley has shone since the dawn of time
Riding a sumptuous horse clad in royal finery
Proudly wearing colors of the kingdom
Prince Riarl approaches
Taking an oath before his knights
At the sound of horns and brass
Taaron's son will be crowned tonight
A new king for Therallas
Beers and wines are arranged on large tables
The festivities take place at the light of the full moon
Special guests dancing to the rhythms of bewitching melodies
Until a piercing cry resonates and fear invades the crowd
Savage beasts and fierce monsters sweep the festivities
The new sovereign starts an intense fight
Sharp swords, raised shields, the enemy will never resist
One by one, heads and arms are cut off and flying
Raging howls as a sign of victory
The grey-skinned bodies lie on the ground
This first achievement as a leader
Will be spread through all the country
HAIL ! TO, KING RIARL !

Devoured By The Oak easily just became one of my favorite Epic/Atmospheric Black Metal albums. The clean vocals and screams are done with such emotions, and the riffs ooze nostalgia and melancholy. I am also a big fan of the female singer featured on a few of the songs. This album cannot be missed if you like anything majestic and atmospheric in the realm of Black Metal.
